Geometry of Uncertainty
Framing uncertainty as an impetus for creativity, RISD’s design and science symposium, Geometry of Uncertainty, explores visual mathematics and the role of geometry in art and design. Inspired by mathematical diagram and tessellation, this identity combines both grid system and modularity. Using tetrahedron and hexahedron as the logo. Their flexible combinations creates order and precision in a dynamic design system.
Crimson Lucky Star Packaing
Crimson Lucky Star, or Juice God is a fizzy plum soda that puts a modern twist on the traditional recipe of Chinese sour plum drink (酸梅汤). We design an auspicious lucky star character based on the Chinese god of luck.

Night at the Races
The British Ball is an annual event organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing. The theme for 2024 focuses on the deep-rooted tradition of horse racing. The branding combines the bold graphic of jockey silks and the outrageous hats we associate with horse races.
This project was designed in collaboration with the team at LAVA Beijing.
Beijing Central Axis
Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2024, the Beijing Central Axis embodys traditional Chinese principles of urban planning.
15 historical heritage components are tied together by the Central Axis, stretching 7.8 kilometers through the heart of Beijing.
This visual identity reflects the symmetry and order of traditional Chinese architecture, pushing the center alignment to the extreme. The color palette, tiling pattern, and roof silhouettes are all direct reference of the building complex.
Sifone Typeface
Sifone is a high-contrast display typeface, elegant with a dash of playfulness.
The inspiration comes from 8 hand-drawn Chinese characters in a 1994 newspaper clipping. The tagline “柔软顺滑来自诗芳” (soft and smooth comes from Sifone) was made for a shampoo brand. This Latin typeface aims to preserve the quirky and bouncy quality of the Chinese specimens, and explore the possibility of bilingual design. Sifone is a open source font
Craigslist UI Refresh
Craigslist is one of the oldest yet the most popular websites that still keeps its original user interface.
My attempt at refreshing Craigslist is to maintain the original programmer aesthetic but also create a modern and elevated branding to attract the younger generations. We kept the original colors and typefaces. The refreshed UI maximized the horizontal screen space and streamlined the user experience in searching and reading dense informations.
Seriously, Not So Serious
Seriously, Not So Serious explores a design practice rooted in intuition, self-care, and the slow labor of craft, offering resistance to the pressure to perform and overproduce. The book questions the seriousness demanded by academic and professional design culture. Rather than seeking credibility through theory or authorship, it leans into the “unserious”: the joy of making, the mess of not knowing, the rhythm of rest, and the quiet confidence of instinct.

Entangled Life
The experimental book juxtapose essays from Entangled life and Mushroom at The End of The World. Borrowing the nature of fungal growth as a visual analogy, this book explores different methods of text interruption and the idea of nesting book within another book.
Atlas
We were asked to answers the questions of ‘who are you?’ and ‘where are you?’ in this assignment. My contribution of 16 pages depict the trajectory of my life as migrating trips, using air flight as a motif, across different time and space.
Atlas is a collaborative publication designed together with the RISD MFA Graduate Studio of Graphic Design.

What Brought Us to This: A Visual Log of 2022 Shanghai Lockdown is a book that documents and critiques the dramatic events caused by China’s harsh zero-COVID policies. It's a record of the country's struggle under authoritarian control and the absurd tragedies we suffered.The featured calendar page of 03/14/2022 is the date when my family started the excessive 79-day lockdown.

Full Moon is for Reunions
Full moon in Chinese culture symbolizes reunion and family togetherness, often celebrated during festivals like the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节).
This circular book uses the flipping of book pages to recreate the waning and waxing of the moon cycle. The plexiglass cover is etched with the date of every full moon I spent in the United States, away from my family. Inside is one of the most famous Chinese poems “Water Melody” (水调歌头) by Su Shi (苏轼)
Illustration Roundtable
Illustration Roundtable is a monthly webinar with the best Chinese creatives working in illustration. We encourage transparent dialogues and promote community building. The goal for the branding is to attract the target audience online. The social media promotions need to be eye-catching and effectively deliver information of the coming guest, the topics, and the method of sign-up. The challenge is to have a consistent system while giving each episode a unique voice of its own.
DID SOMEONE SAY ORIGINALITY?
Did Someone Say Originality: 5 Definitions of Originality is an artist book and a series of short essays that “untangle, analyze, and expose the term from multiple angles, ranging from the specific to expansive, concrete to abstract, visual to theoretical.”
The book features recurring motif of Kazimir Malevich's abstract form to echo the complicated relationship between originality and creativity.
Multilingual Letterings
Celebratory exclamations are universal across cultures. This set of multilingual letterings takes celebratory exclamation words from English, Chinese and Japanese and experiments with the possibility of coherent style across different scripts. The words used here are “YAY”, “太好了” and “やった”.
